Type of Organization or Mission: The Living History Forum is a government agency with the mission to promote democracy, human rights, and the equal value of all people. Through knowledge of history, we aim to encourage reflection and learning about the connections between the past and the present. Our work is based on lessons from the Holocaust, crimes against humanity committed by communist regimes as well as other crimes against humanity throughout history. The agency also has a special mandate to increase and deepen knowledge about antisemitism, antigypsyism, and other forms of racism and intolerance. Our efforts focus on knowledge, culture, and education. We develop exhibitions, professional training, reports, educational materials for schools, and organize seminars and discussions. Our activities take place throughout Sweden, either digitally or on-site, often in collaboration with local, national, and international partners.
The Living History Forum manages The Per Anger Prize, the Swedish Governments human rights and democracy prize. Named after Per Anger who, as secretary of the Swedish legation in Budapest, initiated Sweden’s work to save as many Jews as possible during the Second World War in Nazi-occupied Hungary. The organization also actively promotes the commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day on the 27 January and coordinates the Swedish delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
